Vetriselvan (44), a Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) functionary, was brutally attacked and killed by an unidentified six -member gang on Wednesday morning.

Polices sources said the incident took place around 8.30 a.m., as the victim was about to enter his office on Moovarasanpet Third Main Road, Madipakkam, after his morning walk. The gang pounced on him and hacked him. The victim ran screaming for help, for about 50 metres, but the gang caught up and attacked him again.

Vetriselvan suffered critical injuries on his face, neck and throat and was rushed to a nearby private hospital, where the doctors pronounced him ‘brought dead’. Police force from St. Thomas Mount and Madipakkam rushed to the spot and made arrangements to remove the body for post-mortem. Relatives and party cadre gathered at the scene of crime on hearing the news and raised slogans urging police to arrest the assailants.

Shops remained closed on Medavakkam Main Road, Moovarasanpet Main Road and Madipakkam Main Road. Party sources said the victim was working as the personal secretary to VCK president Thol. Thirumavalavan.

Party workers remembered that in December 2012 , the deputy general secretary of VCK Kancheepuram district unit Narayanan, alias Kanchi Ambedkar Valavan (42), was hacked to death by a three-member gang on Indira Gandhi Salai, Kancheepuram.

After conducting the preliminary enquiries police sources said the victim was involved in number of real estate deals and a family dispute over the profits earned through this could be the cause of rivalry between two groups from the family.

Special teams have been formed to nab the culprits soon and the body was removed to Tambaram Taluk Hospital in Chromepet. Police pickets have been posted at many places across Madipakkam, Moovarasanpet, Keelkattalai and Ullagaram, to prevent any untoward incidents. Further investigations are on.
