As many as 12 members of Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) were arrested here on Friday when they attempted to enter Tirupur railway station premises to block rail traffic.

The protestors demanded that Indian delegates should not attend the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meet (CHOGM)in Sri Lanka.

“When Lanka Army has massacred many thousands of Tamil speaking people in that island nation, why should India take part in the CHOGM meet hosted by Sri Lanka,” Durai Valavan, district coordinator of VCK, asked.

A mild argument took place between the VCK members and the police when the cadre was prevented.

The VCK men criticised the police for allowing large number of protestors two days back to even enter the track for a ‘two minute’ agitation. “Why you are only stopping us?”, they quipped.

But the police stood firm and removed the protestors from the scene by arresting them.
