“VAOs allotted non-specific work”

Work load of Village Administrative Officers (VAO) had increased manifold owing to allotment of non-specific work to them. Such pressure and mental agony forced many to take extreme steps such as committing suicide, said Tamil Nadu Village Administrative Officers’ Association State general secretary Venkateswaran.

Talking to press persons here on Thursday, he said that Davathur VAO Thamizh Selvi attempted to commit suicide on May 5.

An officer in Tiruvallur district resigned her job owing to sexual harassment by her superiors.

Besides, salary was not disbursed to VAOs on schedule. Salary was not disbursed to VAOs at Ambasamudram and Avinashi. A lethargic attitude of the Revenue Department was the prime reason for such a pathetic condition, he charged.
