A 17-year-old girl was found dead in her house at Velliangadu in Tiruppur city, while another 17-year-old girl set herself ablaze in Pattukottai Wednesday.
In Tiruppur, the victim, daughter of garment unit workers, had scored 491 out of 600 in the Plus Two examinations, and recently took the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test.
The body of the teenager was rushed to the government hospital for post-mortem.
The Tirupur police said the death was due to hanging. The parents of the deceased told the media that their daughter was very bold, brave and ambitious, and that they were shocked by her death.
While they voiced suspicion that her suicide was due to her NEET score, the police did not find any suicide note.
SMS alert
In the Pattukottai case, police quoted family members of the deceased as saying she took the extreme step almost immediately after receiving an SMS about her NEET result as she felt it had taken her out of the race for a medical seat.
She was rushed to hospital, where she was declared dead.
