Two more animal husbandry sub-centres will be started shortly in Ariyalur district, according to Government Chief Whip Thamarai S. Rajendran.

Inaugurating a sub-centre at Manakkal in Ariyalur block on Saturday in the presence of Collector M. Vijayalakshmi, he said that the State government had sanctioned six animal husbandry sub-centres in the district. Of them, sub-centres at Mullukurichi, Ujjini and Palanganatham had already been inaugurated. Two more sub-centres in Jayankondam block would be started shortly. Mr. Rajendran said the new sub-centres would be helpful as farmers can get their cattle treated in their neighbourhood. There was no need for them to take the cattle to dispensaries located in far away places.

He added that the sub-centres would have facilities for injecting artificial insemination for cattle and semen storage facility. In addition to it, the centres would have a small pharmacy in order to provide first aid to animals and cattle. Each centre will be managed by a Livestock Inspector.

Joint Director of Animal Husbandry Mohamed Ashif said that the new sub-centres would function in private and public buildings on temporary basis. Proposal would be sent to the government for constructing own buildings. Each centre would require a Livestock Inspector and an Assistant. Steps would be taken to create two posts for each sub-centre.
