Two detained under Goondas Act

Police have detained two persons, who were involved in a murder case and for possessing gelatine sticks and detonators, under the Goondas Act.

Acting on the recommendation of Superintendent of Police N.M. Mylvahanan, Collector K. Nanthakumar ordered their detention on Thursday night.

Police said that K. Vadivel Murugan (27) was arrested on August 14 for murdering his friend at Singapuliapatti in Kamudhi police limits. K. Anandan (23) was arrested on August 24 after he was found in possession of explosives.

The two, who were lodged at the district jail here, were taken to Madurai Central Jail on Friday after Kamudhi Inspector of Police Murugan and Paramakudi Inspector of Police Durai served the detention orders on them, police said.

Anandan, who acted as ‘informer,’ had tried to fix his friend-turned-foe by placing the gelatine sticks and detonators at his house in Paramakudi.

He informed the Organised Crime Unit (OCU) that explosives were stored in a house but before he could place them in the house, the OCU reached the spot and caught him.
