The vehicle lost control and hit the centre median on the Chennai-Bengaluru National Highway at Vallalar on Tuesday.

A multi-axle container lorry was involved in an accident, blocking the busy Chennai—Bengaluru National Highway.

The traffic moving towards Bengaluru was affected for about an hour in the morning.

When a State Transport Corporation bus from Vellore travelling towards Arcot, halted for a passenger pick-up at Vallalar bus stop, the driver of a multi-axle lorry, which was behind, swerved to the right to avoid hitting the bus, the police said.

However, the lorry hit the the rear of the bus, damaged the windscreen and bruised a woman and her son. They returned home after taking first-aid at a nearby hospital.

The vehicle overrode the road divider and injured two more people waiting on the other side of the road.

The traffic was diverted on service road, which led to the formation of bottlenecks at several intersections for more than an hour.

Motorists from the Collector Office who drove towards the opposite direction created more problems for the motorists on their way to the Vellore bus terminus.

Police personnel from Sathuvachari cleared the road by removing the mangled vehicle using a crane service.

They have registered a case and the driver of the lorry, Perumal, 32, of Villupuram taluk was taken into custody.
