Members of Tamil Nadu Thowheed Jamath staged a demonstration at Kadayanallur in the district on Sunday condemning the killing of a 50-year-old man, Mohammed Akhlaq, in Dadri in Uttar Pradesh four days ago.

They claimed that Akhlaq was beaten to death by a mob after it was claimed that he slaughtered a cow and ate its meat. They demanded immediate arrest of those behind the incident.

Cadres of Indian National League staged a demonstration near the new bus stand in Tenkasi without police permission, shouting slogans against Puzhal jail authorities who, they alleged, attacked Muslim inmates. Police arrested 56 INL members. Later they were all released.
