The Tamil Nadu Agriculture University's Agro Climate Research Centre has predicted normal northeast monsoon for the State.
In a release, the ACRC said it had used historical rainfall data from its stations and arrived at the expected rainfall with a 60% probability. Chennai, Kancheepuram, Cuddalore, and Villupuram districts will receive normal rainfall.
Chennai is expected to received 767 mm of its normal 788 mm rainfall. The maximum deviation in the region will be in Tiruvallur, which is expected to receive 529 mm as against its normal 588 mm rainfall, the release said.
The north-western zone comprising Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Namakkal and Salem will receive normal rainfall as will the Coimbatore, Erode and Tirupur districts that come under the western zone.
The districts in the Cauvery delta zone — Ariyalur, Karur, Nagapattinam, Perambalur, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur and Tiruchi — will receive normal rainfall with a deviation of about 10%.
The release says that deviation within plus or minus 19% of the average rainfall is normal. Kanyakumari falls under the high rainfall zone with prediction of 10% more rainfall than its average.
