The Kerala Government constructing the third check dam across River Bhavani will threaten the implementation of the Athikadavu-Avinashi ground water rejuvenation scheme and the Tamil Nadu Government should prevent the construction, PMK youth wing leader Anbumani Ramadoss said here on Sunday.

Leading a protest at Anaikatti, near the inter-state border on Sunday, he said the check dam construction in Kudappatti, near Solaiyur, would reduce the flow of water in the River and that in turn would negatively impact the implementation of the Athikadavu-Avinashi scheme.

The check dam would also prevent farmers in Coimbatore, Tirupur, and Erode from taking up cultivation on over two lakh acre.

The Kerala Government had already constructed two check dams across the River - in Manjakandi and Thekkuvattai - and Solaiyur would the third one.

If the Tamil Nadu Government failed to prevail upon the Kerala Government in this issue, the PMK would mobilise youth in the State and remove the materials from the check dam construction site.

Pattali Makkal Katchi president G.K. Mani, Mr. Ramadoss and around 300 workers courted arrest when they marched towards the inter-state border.
