Time ripe for total prohibition: Ramadoss

PMK founder S. Ramadoss on Monday demanded that prohibition be implemented immediately by the State government as there was growing opposition to the sale of liquor among women. In a statement, he said that the State government was not respecting the protests undertaken by women against alcohol.

“Alcohol has turned out to be the biggest hurdle for the growth and development of Tamil Nadu Instead of looking at the long-term effects of alcohol, the State government seems to just want the revenue from liquor sales,” he said.

Popular resistance

He alleged that the State government was trying to open more liquor outlets in residential areas to compensate for the shutting down of 3,312 liquor stores along the highways. “The protests in Cuddalore, Kancheepuram and Pudukottai show that people are ready to resist liquor shops,” he said.
