Three members of family killed in accident, toddler survives

A couple and their three-year-old son were killed in a road accident after the two-wheeler in which they were travelling rammed into the parapet wall of a railway bridge at Shenbakkam. Their one-and-a-half-year-old daughter escaped with minor injuries.

According to police, Selvam (32) was riding the motorbike from Chennai to his native place at Unnai Mottur in Anaicut on Sunday night with his wife Vennila (31), son Saikumar and daughter Hasini. Selvam was working as an electrician in Chennai.

When the vehicle was plying on the railway bridge at Shenbakkam, it rammed into the parapet wall. In the impact, the family was thrown off the vehicle. Police said Selvam could have fallen asleep while riding the motorbike and lost control of it. The accident occurred at about 10 p.m.

Selvam, Vennila and Saikumar succumbed to injuries, while Hasini was the sole survivor. Vellore North police have registered a case.
