Three get life sentence for abetting rape of minor girl by juvenile offender

Three persons were sentenced to life imprisonment by the Mahila Court here on Monday for abetting rape of a minor girl by a juvenile offender.

The accused Sivakumar (22), Logu (22) and Selvaraj (43) of Pallipalayam near Anthiyur had helped the juvenile offender Velumani to commit the crime. The crime took place at Selvaraj’s house at Kollegal, Karnataka, on June 26, 2012.

Sivakumar and Logu were sentenced under two counts: 10 years under Section 366 read with 109, along with fine of Rs. 5,000 each, and life sentence under Section 4 read with 16 of Prevention of Sexual Offences Against Children (POSCO) Act, 2012, along with Rs. 5,000 fine each. Selvaraj was punished under Section 368 and Section 4 read with 16 of POSCO Act, along with fine of Rs. 5,000.

Both sentences are to run concurrently, the judgement pronounced by Mahila Court Judge Thirunavakarasu said. The case against the first accused Velumani will be tried separately since he is a juvenile offender.
