Three police officers from Tamil Nadu have been chosen for the prestigious President’s medal for distinguished service. Additional Director-General of Police (Tamil Nadu Police Housing Corporation) M.N. Manjunatha, Inspector-General of Police (South Zone) K.P Shanmuga Rajeswaran and Additional Superintendent of Police (Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption) S. Thirunavukarasu will be given the medals.
Mr. Manjunatha, a 1991-batch IPS officer, served in various wings of the State police, including VIP security, Law & Order, Crime Branch CID and Technical Services.
He played a key role in the arrest of Maoist leader Kalidoss and the successful prosecution of Al-Umma activists.
Mr. Shanmuga Rajeswaran was the Joint Commissioner of Police (South), Chennai City, when five suspects allegedly involved in the sensational bank robberies were shot dead in 2012.
He also investigated a few sensational murder cases in the city.
In the category of police medal for meritorious service, A.T Durai Kumar, Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Central Bureau of Investigation; B. Vijayakumari, Joint Commissioner of Police (West), Chennai Police; M. Pandian, Superintendent of Police (Uniformed Services Recruitment Board); S. Rajendran, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Kilpauk); M.S. Muthusamy, DCP (St. Thomas Mount); P. Pakalavan, SP (Vellore), were among 23 officers, inspectors and sub-inspectors chosen for the medal.
Mahesh Kumar Agarwal, presently Inspector-General of Police (Crime Branch CID), has been chosen for the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister’s Police Medal for Excellence in Public Service.
After taking charge as Commissioner of Police, Madurai city, Mr. Agarwal launched a series of initiatives that improved the morale of the force and the image of the police among the people.
He led the special team that rescued two minor girls who were kidnapped for ransom. Comprehensive health screening camps were organised for the welfare of the police personnel and their family members.
J. Mutharasi, Assistant Inspector-General of Police, police headquarters; D. Kannan, SP, Special Branch CID; T. Rajanarayanan, Inspector of Police (Technical); and V. Anantharajan, sub-inspector of Thittachery police station in Nagapattinam district, were also chosen for the medal.
