Temple watchman murdered

An 85-year-old man, working as a night watchman at a temple at Gudiyatham, was found murdered on Saturday morning. Police said Gopalakrishnan, a resident of Melalathur post, Gudiyatham, was working as a watchman from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. everyday at the Kasi Viswanathar Koil, Gudiyatham.

At 5.30 a.m. on Saturday, the temple priest Chandrasekar found the door of the temple locked from inside and he scaled the compound wall to enter the premises. He found Gopalakrishnan murdered with a slit in his throat.

The lock on the hundial was found broke open but no money was stolen. Police said that unidentified persons had scaled the compound wall of the temple on Friday night. They had broken open the lock on the hundial.

Gopalakrishnan was lying nearby. On seeing him, they slit his throat with a knife. They left the premises by using a ladder to scale the compound wall. Following this, the Gudiyatham Town police have registered a case and are investigating.
