The officers of the Idol Wing on Monday arrested four persons at Porur who were transporting a five-metal idol from a temple in Tiruvallur.
Following information about the smuggling, the officers of Idol Wing led by Inspector General of Police A. G. Ponn Manickavel reached Karambakkam in three autorickshaws and were waiting for a car to arrive. At 6 p.m, they intercepted the vehicle. In the presence of more 100 people and a bank officer, the police team searched the car and found a ‘Amman’ idol made of five metals. The arrested persons told the police that the idol was stolen from a temple and they were planning to sell it for ₹50 lakh.
