Following suspected dengue outbreak at Rajapalayam on Tirunelveli – Virudhunagar border, a team of officials attached to various departments from the district has been rushed to the affected area for conducting anti-mosquito operations.
A team of officials was rushed to the affected areas on Thursday and being involved in the anti-mosquito operations. Moreover, the team’s services are being utilised in spreading anti-dengue message among the public.
The officials are distributing to the public pamphlets carrying tips on destroying mosquito breeding grounds and protecting themselves from mosquito bites, particularly during daytime.
On the situation prevailing at Rajapalayam, Minister for Public Health C. Vijayabhaskar told The Hindu over phone that over 500 personnel had been involved in controlling the outbreak of viral fever in the affected areas.
“We’ve deployed several teams and each team comprises a Commissioner-level officer, a Medical Officer, a health inspector and a few sanitary workers at each ward. We’ll be here till the problem subsides and the situation is now totally under control,” Dr. Vijayabhaskar said, adding that awareness campaigns and rallies were being organised to tell the public the role to be played by them in containing the epidemic.
