The School Education Department will soon organise training for teachers of Classes 1, 6, 9 and 11 in handling the revamped syllabus this academic year, said Minister for School Education K.A. Sengottaiyan.

A meeting of officials from across the State was held on Monday following the restructuring of the administrative set-up.

In the new scheme of things, Chief Educational Officers (CEOs) would administer panchayat union primary and middle schools, government high and higher secondary schools as well as government aided schools and can also regulate private schools in their jurisdiction.

Also, District Elementary Educational Officers, Inspectors of Matriculation Schools and Inspectors of Anglo Indian Schools will be retained as District Educational Officers and they will be empowered to visit any school within their jurisdiction.

Effective supervision

The administrative restructuring was proposed in an attempt to effectively supervise all schools by conducting regular inspections. A government order was passed recently to this effect.

Speaking on the sidelines of the meeting, Mr. Sengottaiyan said discussions were initiated among various district-level officials about their responsibilities in the new set-up.

“The CEOs as well as the District Educational Officers have been told how they should conduct inspections in schools and be aware of any infrastructural irregularities, including private schools,” he said.

All the officials have been asked to act on any complaint they receive about excess fees collected by schools, he added.

With schools set to reopen on June 1, the School Education Department has been making arrangements for students to receive new uniforms introduced this year.
