May 11, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:37 am IST - Dindigul:

Around 1,500 teacher trainers attached to block resource centres observed a fast here on Sunday, pressing for their various demands.

They demanded that the government should convene a counselling session for them immediately to enable them to become regular teachers in government schools.

A total of 4,500 teacher trainers in the State had been taking care of developing infrastructure in schools, monitoring school dropouts, stressing education for girl children and training regular teachers in government schools, said Raj Kumar, State president of Tamil Nadu Teacher Trainers’ Association.

They should be transferred to main schools from block resource centres as regular teachers on the basis of seniority. At present more than 500 teacher trainers had been waiting for promotion and transfer to regular schools. Such transfers would help the government fill the vacancies of regular teacher posts in government schools, according to Vasudevan, State general secretary of the association.

They also demanded implementation of the old pension scheme.

Teacher trainers from Tiruchi, Dindigul, Salem and Theni districts participated.
