The Tamil Nadu Co-operative Marketing Federation (TANFED) will procure copra at the rate of Rs.51 a kg this year.

It has been notified as the State-level designated marketing agency to undertake copra procurement under Price Support Scheme for the 2012 season, as per an order issued by the State government, according to a release from the Coconut Development Board.

Accordingly, it will procure milling copra at Rs.51 a kg and ball copra at Rs 53.50 a kg.

The National Agricultural Co-operative Marketing Federation (NAFED), the national-level nodal agency for the Price Support Scheme operations, will also enter into an agreement with TANFED for procurement as was done earlier.

In view of the continuous fall in the price of milling copra and coconut in Kerala and Tamil Nadu, Rajeev Gupta, Managing Director of NAFED, visited the headquarters of the Coconut Development Board and had discussions with its chairman T.K. Jose.

He promised all support for expediting the procurement operations.

‘Fair average quality'

The Coconut Development Board-recognised coconut producers' societies, farmer's clusters of Agricultural Department\ Kudumbasree\ Janasree units, having infrastructure for drying coconuts, have been permitted to procure raw coconut (dehusked mature coconuts) at the Central government-declared rate of Rs.1,400 a quintal from the farmers coming under their area of operation, make ‘fair average quality' grade copra and supply to State-level agencies allotted to their district.
