T. Nagar incident: SHRC issues notice to policemen

The State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has taken suo-motu cognisance of the scuffle between a youth and traffic policemen at T.Nagar, which resulted in the arrest of the former.

The SHRC has summoned, sub-inspector Suresh and special sub-inspector Jayaraman, both attached to the Mambalam traffic police station. The policemen have been directed to appear before the commission on April 18 at 10.30 a.m.

Prakash, 21, of Saligramam was stopped by the police in T. Nagar on Monday evening as he was not wearing a helmet and was riding with two pillion riders. An argument ensued and the policemen caught the youth by his collar and Prakash grabbed the shirt of another police officer.

Prakash started recording the happenings on his mobile phone and a traffic police personnel also did the same. The videos went viral on social media and the police came under criticism.
