City Police Commissioner M.N. Reddi on Friday directed the Ulsoor police to take a suo motu case against Rajaram, a police sub-inspector from Madurai (Tamil Nadu) for beating up his daughter publicly in Ulsoor on Thursday.

The accused, Rajaram, thrashed his daughter publicly, while passers-by witnessed the incident without giving a helping hand to the girl. She was accused of having an affair and bringing “disrepute to the family”. The young girl was rescued by two girls who were passing by and noticed the commotion. They alerted the police.

The Ulsoor police took the family to the police station and later released Rajaram and his wife, a teacher from Madurai. According to police, the victim refused to file a complaint.

However, after noticing the media reports, Mr. Reddi took cognizance of the case and directed the Ulsoor police to take suo motu action. The police are on the lookout for the victim and her parents to record their statement for further action.
