Students should prepare for industry 4.0 by evolving as innovators and entrepreneurs, said S.P. Thyagarajan, former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Madras.
The current trend of automation and data exchange in all service and manufacturing sectors, such as cyber-physical systems, internet of things, cognitive computing, artificial intelligence and data analytics (industry 4.0) demanded a new set of skills from students, he said.

“Transform yourself as start-ups and incubatees for discipline-relevant product development,” he told the graduands of the Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (Tanuvas).
Among Tanuvas’ success stories is the ‘Smart Sivaganga’ project which had developed the district, he said while delivering the university’s 20th convocation address on Thursday. “Good teachers are the reason for ordinary students to dream and do extraordinary things,” he added.
Tanuvas Vice-Chancellor C. Balachandran said the convocation for academic years 2016-17 and 2017-18 had been held together. A total of 906 candidates graduated in various programmes.
Governor and Chancellor Banwarilal Purohit distributed medals to meritorious students. Divya V. (2017-18) and Nandhini P.B. (2016-17) bagged 13 medals each. Pro-Chancellor and Animal Husbandry Minister Udumalai K. Radhakrishnan announced the endowment prizes instituted by the alumni.
