The Kannangurichi Panchayat Middle School in Salem city, which was till recently yet another Government school, is now posing a new look on a par with the private schools, thanks to the steps taken by ‘Aakkam’, an initiative of Golden Gates and Emerald Valley schools.

The students of both these private schools took up the task of complete reconstruction and repairs of the Kannagurichi Panchayat Middle School and the renovated school was dedicated on Monday. The renovation works were launched on March 1.

As far as the infrastructure is concerned, the Government school, which is catering to students till class VIII, has been completely transformed. The leaking roofs, damaged floors, defunct toilets, insufficient water supply, and bad wiring have all now become a thing of the past.

A secure compound wall built now protects the tiles laid in all the buildings and all amenities for children that include good black boards, wall cupboards and notice boards, good quality furniture (table and chair) and two fans and a tube light per class.

A well stocked laboratory-cum-library and a fully furnished computer centre with 12 systems and a UPS to support them have been provided.

All required repairs and replacements in all the existing toilets have been made, the roof extended and walls painted. To ensure maintenance, good water supply has been given top priority.

As part of the CSR activity, the United India Insurance Company dug a bore well, provided a motor, compressor, pipe lines, plumbing and an overhead tank through a parent of Golden Gates School.

The persistence of the correspondent of both the schools Meena Sethu and the efforts of panchayat president Gubendran have ensured the demolition of a condemned building that was awaiting demolition orders from the Block Development Officer for the past 5 years.

The low-level areas have been filled and the ground rolled. Outdoor play equipment for the children have also been provided.

Every aspect of the school’s infrastructure has been taken care of and improved.

Parents and teachers of the panchayat school have been taken on board to ensure that the high standards are maintained.

The parents and teachers have promised their fullest cooperation for the proper maintenance of the new facility at a meeting held recently.
