Students make Vellore proud with one State second and 6 third ranks

Despite the honours and plethora of centums, district slips to 28th rank

Vellore district has produced one State-second rank and six State third ranks, but slipped to the 28th rank in the pass percentage at the State level in the Secondary School Leaving Certificate Class X public examinations, the results of which were announced on Thursday.

R. Devavarshini of Bharathidasanar Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Arakkonam, with 498 marks obtained the State second rank and the district first rank.

The State third rank and district second rank were shared by N. Madhan (Bharathidasanar MHSS), B. Neelambika (Vani MHSS, Vaniyambadi), S. Priyadharshini (Thirumathi Ethiraja Mudaliar Government Girls HSS, Sholinghur), E. Priyadharshini (Bharathidasanar MHSS), D.S. Ragamaliga (Vani MHSS, Vaniyambadi) and G. Sneha (Vidhyalakshmi MHSS, Chennankuppam) who obtained 497 marks.

S. Priyadharshini of T.E.M. GGHSS, Sholinghur also earned the distinction of having obtained the State third rank among the students of government schools.

A total of 25 students obtained 496 marks and shared the district third rank. The district also produced a plethora of centums.

A total of 2,598 students obtained centum in Science, while 99.21 per cent of the students passed in the subject. Nine hundred and seventy-one students obtained centum in mathematics in which the pass percentage was 94.79 per cent. A total of 761 students passed in Social Science in which the pass percentage was 95.11. Four students obtained centum in language (the pass percentage being 92) and two in English (92.36% passes).

Out of the 56,559 candidates who appeared for the exams in 581 schools in Vellore district, 50,155 passed, registering a pass percentage of 88.68, which took the district to the 28th rank at the State level, slipping from the 26th rank it obtained last year. A total of 151 schools including 28 government schools obtained 100 per cent passes.
