A budding engineer was fatally knocked down in a road accident near the Government College of Engineering here on Monday.
Police said B. Surya (18) of Kodumudi in Karur, a first year student of Government College of Engineering, returned to the college hostel near the college on Monday morning after the ‘puja’ holidays.
After getting down from the bus around 4.30 a.m. in front of the college, she tried to cross the busy highway from behind the bus even before the vehicle moved.
As she emerged from behind the bus, Surya was hit violently by a speeding car, proceeding from Tuckerammalpuram in Palayamkottai to Periyakulam. One Ganesan, manager of a nationalized bank at Periyakulam and was driving the car when the accident occurred, took the victim to the Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital. However, she died on the way to the hospital. The city traffic investigation wing police have registered a case.
