The Tamil Nadu government will move the Supreme Court against the order of the National Green Tribunal (NGT) favouring the reopening of Vedanta's Sterlite Copper plant in Thoothukudi , Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami told journalists at Omalur, near Salem, on Saturday.

The State had ordered the permanent closure of the plant on alleged pollution charges after the violent protests in May, he said.

The company moved the NGT against the government order and the tribunal had given its verdict. “The government will move the Supreme Court against the NGT verdict setting aside its order to close the copper smelter plant permanently,” Mr. Palaniswami said.
