State Govt. urged to go in for appeal

June 27, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:37 am IST - Tirupur:

CPI (M) Central Committee member and AIDWA national vice-president U. Vasuki has said that the State Government should go for an appeal against the recent Madras High Court single judge’s order referring a case of rape for mediation.

Shocking

“AIDWA state president met the young victim woman this evening. Actually the young woman wanted justice not a husband or father to her child and hence, the order for mediation is shocking to us,” she told The Hindu here.

According to Mrs. Vasuki, the rape survivor’s right to take a decision about her life was trampled upon and the court should not entertain the notion that the culprit could be absolved of serious criminal offence if he marries the same person whom he ‘violated’ once.

Licence

to perpetrators

“Such practices will give a sort of licence to perpetrators of violence to sexually assault orphans,” she opined.

Condemns

Ms. Vasuki also condemned the State Women's Commission's position taken in the case.
