The treasurer of DMK, M.K. Stalin, has said that it was due to the initiative of T.R. Baalu, the candidate for the Thanjavur Lok Sabha seat, new trains had been introduced in the delta region.
Campaigning at Mannargudi on Friday, Mr. Stalin said Mr. Baalu, as chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Railways, was instrumental in the introduction of various trains from Mannargudi.
Besides, the DMK brought various welfare and development projects to Thanjavur constituency.
He came down heavily on the AIADMK government for its miserable failure to contain rise in prices of essential commodities and construction material.
Addressing a public meeting at Thanjavur town on Thursday night, he said that as Union Petroleum Ministry entered into an agreement with Great Eastern Energy Corporation for taking Methane in India, the then DMK regime in the State signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the company.
Now having learnt the hazards the project would bring and respecting the feelings of the local people, the DMK had appealed to the Central government to reconsider the proposed project.
“We have said it in our poll manifesto also,” he said.
