A spotted deer was killed by community dogs after it strayed into human habitation near Gudiyatham on Thursday morning.

According to the Forest Department officials, they got a message from the people of Amburanpatti that the dogs had attacked a spotted dear near their village. The male deer might have gone to the village from nearby reserve forest area in search of water, sources said.

Based on the information, the forest officials reached the spot and sent the carcass for postmortem. It was later cremated inside the forest area, they said. Locals said the herbivores regularly strayed into the human habitations. The forest department should create more water pools for the animals, many which of were on the list of endangered species, they added.
