Special prayers, rallies mark Ramzan festivities in Ramnad and Dindigul

After ending the month-long fasting, Muslims celebrated Ramzan with fervour and gaiety and offered special prayers at mosques in Ramanathapuram and Sivaganga districts on Saturday.

Attired in the best, Muslims walked in a procession and offered mass prayer at Gorithoppu ground here before visiting the big mosque. After the end of sermon and special prayer for world prosperity at the mosque, they hugged each other and exchanged greetings and pleasantries.

Muslims also took part in mass prayers at Kilakarai, Erwadi, Panaikulam, Mandapam and Periapattinam in the district. Women members of the community offered prayers at separate places near the mosques at various places.

After the mass prayers, they prepared special feast in their homes and shared their joy by distributing sweets and ‘briyani’ a delicacy of rice and mutton to Hindu and Christian brethren, displaying religious amity and communal harmony. At many places the “Jamats” organised common feasts for the poor.

In Sivaganga, the Muslims took part in the mass prayer at a ground near the big mosque. Imam Sagubar Sithick delivered a sermon and they prayed for world peace and prosperity. Mass prayers were also held in Ilayankudi, Tirupattur, Karaikudi and Devakottai.

Dindigul

Special mass prayers and rallies marked Ramzan celebrations in Dindigul and Theni districts on Saturday.

In Dindigul town, thousands of Muslims congregated at the Begampur Mosque in the morning and took part in the special prayers. They exchanged greetings and distributed sweets.

Similar prayers were held at mosques in Palani, Keeranur, Gorikadavu, Pappampatti and old and new Ayakudi.

A group of Muslims took out a rally in Ayakudi. Adequate security was provided for the rally.

Theni

Muslims took out separate rallies in Theni and other parts of the district on the occasion of Ramzan. Later, they took part in a mass prayer and exchanged greetings. Similar mass prayers were held at mosques in Cumbum, Uthamapalayam and Periakulam towns.
