Special medical camps were organised in Villupuram and Cuddalore districts in rural areas for the benefit of villagers on Saturday.
These camps had the facility to conduct blood test and other tests for ascertaining the status of diabetes and blood pressure. The villagers were also screened for ear, nose, throat and vision problems.
Those having common ailments were administered medicines and those suffering from chronic ailments were referred to government hospitals or any of the empanelled hospitals under the Comprehensive Chief Minister’s Health Insurance Scheme.
At Arasampattu Panchayat Union Primary School in Sankarapuram bloc, Rural Industries Minister P. Mohan inaugurated a special medical camp. Mr. Mohan also stated that during 2014-2015 as many as 37,542 school students underwent eye check-up. Of them, 2,221 were found to have vision problems and 1,573 were given corrective glasses. Of the total number of 66 special medical camps planned in the district, 47 had been completed so far, he added. On the occasion, the Minister gave away spectacles to school students. Project Director (DRDA) G. Radha, Deputy Director (Health) V. Govindan and other officials accompanied the Minister.
In Cuddalore district, Commercial Taxes Minister M.C. Sampath inaugurated a special medical camp at Pudhukooraipettai in Vriddhachalam block. He said that it was proposed to conduct 39 such camps in the district during the current year.
He was accompanied by District Revenue Officer Vijaya, Deputy Director (Health) Jawaharlal and A.Arunmozhithevan, MP.
