The Special Investigation Division (SID), which is probing the murders of Hindu outfit leaders, will also investigate the June 26 murder of a milk vendor here.
City police sources said the Thideer Nagar murder case had been transferred to the SID since the accused in the killings of Bharatiya Janata Party leader V. Ramesh in Salem, Hindu Munnani leader Vellaiyappan in Vellore and milk vendor Suresh Kumar on Nethaji Road were the same.
M. Abudlla and A. Taufeeq of Madurai city, who were arrested on Thursday in connection with Suresh Kumar murder case, had reportedly confessed that ‘Police’ Fakruddin, Bilal Malik and Panna Ismail – the accused in the murders of Hindu leaders – were part of the armed gang that killed the milk vendor.
“Since the crucial lead in the murders of Hindu outfit leaders came from the accused of this case, it has been transferred to the SID which was formed to probe those cases,” a city police officer said.
The city police who took custody of the duo after producing them before a Judicial Magistrate on Friday transferred the case to the SID on Saturday.
The accused were handed over to SID after getting permission from the court, the city police said.
