Shun plastics, Vellore Collector urges people

In Tiruvannamalai, the district Collector appeals to parents to help the administration in preventing child marriages

At the Independence Day celebrations on Wednesday, Collector S.A. Raman handed over welfare assistance worth nearly ₹1.47 crore to 48 beneficiaries in Vellore district.

The Collector hoisted the national flag and honoured two freedom fighters on the occasion.

He distributed welfare measures, including free house patta to 10 persons, agricultural implements to 13 beneficiaries and financial assistance to four women self-help groups.

He distributed certificates of appreciation to 150 government officers and nine sportspersons, who had won gold in various national-level championships.

Taking part in a gram sabha meeting at Thuraiperumbakkam panchayat, he urged the residents of all village panchayats to take a pledge not to use plastic items, according to a press release.

BHEL’s new products

At Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited, Ranipet, executive director K. Kalaiselvan hoisted the tricolour.

He said that BHEL Ranipet is venturing into new business avenues and introduced new products.

‘Curb child marriages’

In Tiruvannamalai district, Collector K.S. Kandasamy gave away welfare assistance worth ₹3.64 crore to 500 beneficiaries during the Independence Day celebrations. He attemded the gram sabha at Vedanatham in Kilpennathur panchayat union. He said several cases of child marriages were reported in the district, and appealed to parents not to get their daughters married before the age of 18.
