KODAIKANAL

Sharp showers on lower and upper Kodaikanal hills brought down the temperature in the hill station on Tuesday, bringing cheers to horticulturists and floriculturists.

After a long gap, tourists witnessed water flow in Silver Cascade, Moolaiyaru and other streams. For the first time in this season, the flow was good in Rat Tail Falls near Dum Dum Rock. Sharp showers in Kodaikanal will ultimately improve storage position in major dams near Palani.

Braving the rain, tourists, mostly young couples and college students from northern States, enjoyed the salubrious climate, clouds and the mist-covered cliffs and valleys.

Kodaikanal has been receiving intermittent showers since last week. As a result, storage has improved in old and new reservoirs, the main drinking water sources for Kodaikanal town.

Lorry operators have started drawing water from the streams for supply to hotels and restaurants. A great solace to residents and tourists was the absence of movement of wild animals. This is attributed mainly to the improved water availability in deep forests.

When there is no water in the interior forests, wild animals will usually visit Kodaikanal central bus stand, lake area and Chettiyar Park and Bryant Park.

Rain lashed Dindigul, Chithayankottai, Batlagundu, Vakkampatti and nearby areas in the evening, bringing down the mercury level sharply.
