Seven engineering students, hailing from Kerala, were arrested on Tuesday on charge of assaulting a junior student, also from Kerala, at Infant Jesus Engineering College in Keela Vallanadu, Tuticorin.

According to police, V. Abinvaali Mathew from Kottayam, a second-year mechanical engineering student, was assaulted by the group of seven students, which recently completed their course in this college.

When they came to the college to collect their course completion certificate, they picked up a quarrel with Mathew. They had developed enmity with Mathew based on his complaint that he was ragged by the seniors, the college administration had, in the past, expelled them from the hostel. On Tuesday evening, Mathew came under attack by the seven students. He suffered injury on his forehead and back after one of the attackers hurled a stone at him.
