The State government should establish Lokayukta before next Assembly polls, president of Social Democratic Party of India, K.K.S.M. Tehlan Baqavi said.
Speaking to reporters here on Monday, Mr. Tehlan Baqavi said corruption in the government departments was the most serious threat the State was facing since it would completely erode all attempts being taken for Tamil Nadu’s development.
Tamil Nadu would witness progress in all spheres if the anti-corruption mechanism was set up, he said.
The Muslim outfit leader said the sale of liquor in Tamil Nadu was another major threat the State was facing. The State government, which was utilising the revenue it was getting through liquor sale for giving freebies, should impose a prohibition in Tamil Nadu.
Mr. Baqavi said that the SDPI would soon form a team of experts to study pollution being caused by a private company at Sahupuram in Tuticorin district.
