The Madras High Court has suspended the three years imprisonment awarded to former AIADMK minister C. Aranganayakam, by a special court, which convicted him in a disproportionate assets case.
Justice N. Satishkumar passed the order on an appeal moved by Mr. Aranganayakam challenging the order of the special court dated April 17 and posted the plea to June 28 for further arguments in the case.
The issue pertains to a disproportionate assets case worth ₹1.15 crore filed against the former minister, his wife and two sons in 1996.
The trial court found Mr. Aranganayakam guilty of the offences but acquitted his wife Kalaiselvi and sons Santhana Pandian and Murugan Adhiyaman of all charges.
