Police arrested eight members of All India Students’ Federation (AISF) when they staged a demonstration on the Collectorate premises here to highlight their demands on Wednesday.

They demanded implementation of admission to 25 per cent poor students in the private schools under the Right to Education Act and cancellation of permission to schools that flout this instruction.

The members also urged the State government to check collection of exorbitant tuition fee by schools.

The protestors said all schools should be directed to reveal the number of students admitted to each class and the number of poor students given admission under the RTE Act.

Anticipating a good number of protestors, over 50 policemen had been posted but only eight carrying a banner, turned up at the Collectorate. They were released in the evening.
