Some unidentified persons attacked a school run by the wife of S.P. Udayakumar, who is spearheading the protest against the Kudankulam nuclear power project, around midnight on Tuesday.

Situated at Pazhayur near Rajakkamangalam, the school was targeted in the first week of February too.

In the latest attack, the compound wall was razed, the windscreen of the school van damaged and the library ransacked.

Speaking to reporters here on Wednesday, Ms. Meera Udayakumar said that it was a planned attack. Based on a complaint lodged by her on February 4, the police had registered a case but did not provide protection to the school or the students.

She had received an anonymous letter four days ago, which stated that she should wind up and start a matriculation school in Germany. The letter was also brought to the notice of Rajakkamangalam police but no action was taken.

She urged the government to give protection to students. The attack went unnoticed as a temple festival was being celebrated on a nearby ground.

On hearing about the incident, the Rajakkamangalam police inspector visited the school and conducted an enquiry. The police have registered a case.
