Say no to tobacco, says SP

The Department of Psychiatry, Thanjavur Medical College, observed the World No Tobacco Day on Monday.

Speakers pointed out that the youth were particularly vulnerable to the adverse effects of tobacco.

Superintendent of Police G. Dharumarajan stressed the need to keep away tobacco products. It must be done by way of awareness through media and various other programmes.

Dean, TMCH, P.G. Sankaranarayanan, explained various medical complications arising out of tobacco abuse and called upon students and the public to shun tobacco. Head, Department of Psychiatry, S. Ilangovan, spoke on the significance of the World No Tobacco Day observed since 1989.

A public awareness programme was held along with an exhibition that mirrored various effects of tobacco use.

Professors P. Nallamuthu, M. Singaravelu and G. Anbazhagan spoke.
