The Salem Railway Division has designed novel collapsible dustbins for collection of garbage in the running trains.

The dustbins designed by the mechanical branch of the division have been kept in all the long distance trains originating from the base stations that fell in Salem Railway Division.

The dustbins have been placed in the vestibules in all the coaches, so that the people could deposit the wastes in them without any difficulty.

The initiative has proved a big success, Mr. Shubhranshu told presspersons on Saturday.

The uniqueness of the collapsible dustbins and the success of the project has been commended in various quarters and the Southern Railway has directed the other divisions too to follow the example of Salem division.

Big dustbins

The Salem division has also installed specially designed big dustbins at designated points on the platforms in the major stations such as Coimbatore, Salem and Erode for depositing of pantry car garbage.

These dustbins have been placed at the point where the pantry car will be halted, he said.
