Sale of dry fodder at subsidised rate commenced at Veppur union on Wednesday. The government has ordered the sale of dry fodder at subsidised rates to farmers as part of drought relief measures to address fodder shortage. Farmers could purchase a kg of hay at Rs.2. Farmers can purchase three kg of fodder for each cattle a day for seven days. A farmer can buy a maximum of 105 kg a week for five head of cattle for two months.
Farmers would have to produce details of the cattle owned by them and register their names by producing copies of their ration card and two passport size photographs at the nearest veterinary dispensary. All those registered would be issued identity cards using which the farmers could buy the fodder. The dry fodder godown at Veppur Veterinary Hospital campus would benefit 33 village panchayats. The sale through Animal Husbandry Department was inaugurated at Veppur by M.Chandrakasi, Member of Parliament.
