RTE admission process under way in Vellore

Application forms to be distributed till May 19

Admission process under the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (RTE) Act, 2009, for 2015-2016 has begun in Vellore.

The RTE Act mandates reservation of 25 per cent seats at the entry-level classes in private schools for children belonging to disadvantaged groups.

Officials in the Education Department said 7,564 seats in LKG and 107 seats in class VI were up for admissions as per the RTE Act provisions in Vellore district.

The department aims at achieving 100 per cent admission in all the schools under the Act. It recently released the time table for the admission process.

Private schools had been asked to put up an announcement on notice boards inviting applications to fill 25 per cent seats reserved at the entry-level classes as per the provisions of the Act on May 2.

Details of total intake and seats available on implementing the 25 per cent reservation in the entry-level classes of LKG and Class I should be put up, according to a press release.

The distribution of applications that began on May 4 will go on till May 19.

The last date to submit filled-in applications is till 5 p.m. on May 19. Schools should publish the list of students selected and rejected along with reasons for rejection by 5 p.m. on May 21.

If schools had received applications beyond the reserved number of seats, random selection of students through draw of lots should be taken up in the presence of parents at 10.30 a.m. on May 25.

At 2 p.m. on the same day, schools should put up the list of students selected for the admission on the notice board. The return statement should be sent by June 2.

Admission for the seats that remain unfilled in the quota should be carried out for six months after the school re-opens that is from June 1 to November 30.

Details of seats

Officials said there were three schools that were under the control of the Chief Education Officer (CEO) with a total intake of 108 seats in class VI. Of this, 27 seats were available on the implementation of 25 per cent reservation for RTE.

In the 444 schools that fall under the District Elementary Education Officer (DEEO), there were a total of 20,640 seats in LKG, of which 5,014 will be reserved for RTE admissions.

Of the total of 10,200 seats in LKG and 320 seats in class VI available in the 144 schools coming under the Directorate of Matriculation Schools, 2,550 seats in LKG and 80 in class VI were available in the 25 per cent quota.

As against the total intake capacity of 30,840 seats in LKG and 428 in class VI in the district, the RTE admissions will be for 7,564 seats in LKG and 107 in class VI, officials said.

The release said that the guidelines for admission under RTE Act and government orders are available on www.tnmatricschools.com. The application forms for RTE admission should be issued free of cost to parents at all schools.

The forms are also available at the offices of the CEO, CEO (Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan), District Education Officer, Inspector of Matriculation Schools, DEEO and Assistant Elementary Education Officer.
