Rice festival on May 28, 29

A State-level rice festival 2011 will be conducted by CREATE-Organic Farming Agriculture Training and Research Centre at Adhirangam near Thiruthuraipoondi in Tiruvarur district on May 28 and 29.

A press release issued here on Friday said that G. Nammalvar, organic scientist, will preside over the festival. An exhibition will be organised in connection with the festival in which 47 traditional varieties of paddy will be displayed.

Paddy varieties ranging from short, middle and long term with duration of 60 to 180 days will be displayed.

Organic farmers, farm experts, scientists and agriculture officers from Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and West Bengal are likely to attend the festival.

Meetings will be conducted in which the agriculture policy of the governments, food security issues, water conservation methods, necessity of organic farming, conversion of cultivable lands into housing sites, will be discussed.
