A group of women from Drivers’ Colony Street near Manakaavalanpillai Hospital in Palayamkottai have submitted petition to Mayor E. Bhuvaneshwari seeking free patta for the land on which their houses have been constructed.

The petitioners said the residents of Drivers’ Colony, who were living there for the past 40 years, had been given drinking water connection, streetlights, proper roads, underground drainage connection etc. as they were paying taxes payable to the urban civic body.

Of late, efforts were on to chase these residents away and take back the land by classifying it as a ‘poromboke land’. Hence, the Corporation should give them free patta since the residents had been living there for the past 40 years, they said. Another group of residents from C.N. Village under ward 39 submitted petition to the Mayor seeking regular and adequate supply of drinking water.
