Residents of Nandivaram Guduvancheri and civic body officials have been trading charges in recent times over water supply in the area. This is even as residents have been collecting drinking water that is supplied through pipes from a pit dug on a footpath on Chinnakulam Street for the past few days.

Enquiries reveal that the civic body had provided a few twin-tap public fountains in the area for drinking water supply. However, as the summer season peaked, the water flow through these fountains was maintained with only minimum pressure in order to ensure supply to all areas. Official sources allege that residents may have removed the tap and started collecting water directly from the supply line.

However, residents of Chinnakulam Street claimed that it was civic body officials who removed the public tap as they were not able to supply water with the required pressure.

Thus, they claimed, they were forced to tap water directly from the supply line laid at a depth of three-and-half feet below the road level.
