Four-time national film award winner and noted Tamil film director Cheran would not have imagined even in his wildest dreams that one day he would lie down for a brief nap on the concrete slab at the visitors’ hall in the Judicial Magistrate Court complex in this part of the State.
But the actor-director, maker of social message-packed films and Autograph , a wholesome entertainment, who turned up to appear before the court in Ramanathapuram in a cheque bounce case, put up a brave face.
He got into trouble in a cheque bounce case after launching C2H, a cinema-to-home company, to curb video piracy in Tamil film industry.
As he had to wait for more than two hours to complete the formalities, Cheran freely interacted with visitors and posed for selfies.
A woman, selling ‘paruthi pal’ on the court premise, was all in smiles as she could narrate her entire story to the director after her husband ditched her.
A television journalist could rub shoulders with the director and recall the day when his family watched Thavamai Thavamirundhu with tears welled in his eyes and shared his familial bond.
Cheran who fielded a few questions from reporters with a brittle smile, exuded confidence of staging a comeback.
“Nothing comes easy in life. Did you watch West Indies lifting T20 World Cup after hitting four successive sixes in the final over?” he asked and went to catch a brief nap, stretching out on the concrete slab.
