The 189-year-old Holy Trinity Cathedral of Tirunelveli CSI Diocese, which underwent massive renovation and extension at a cost of Rs. 4.50 crore, was blessed and rededicated on Friday.

Most Rev. G. Dyvasirvadam, moderator, Church of South India blessed and rededicated the Cathedral in the presence of Rt. Rev. J.J. Christdoss, Bishop of Tirunelveli CSI Diocese and thousands of the congregation, who had gathered to witness the event. This is the third renovation the church has undergone after Rev. C.T.E. Rhenius, considered as ‘The Apostle of Tirunelveli,’ established the Cathedral in 1826.

Apart from building the Holy Trinity Cathedral at Palayamkottai, he built 371 churches at Meignanapuram, Dohnavur, Pannaivilai, Nallur and other places.

After the extension and renovation was undertaken at a cost of Rs. 4.50 crore, this landmark church can accommodate around 2,600 persons for the prayers at any given time.
