A relief of Rs. 5,000 each was distributed to seven persons, as their huts in Azhagyapandiyapuram were gutted on Friday evening, a release by P. Subramaniam, Tahsildhar (in charge), Thovalai on Saturday.
As soon as fire broke out in the slum in Kesavanpudur in Azhagyapandiapuram, fire tenders rushed to the spot and put out the fire, before it spread to the entire area.
Besides monetary compensation, dhoti, sari, rice and kerosene were also distributed. The inmates were removed to safer places, Mr. Subramaniam said.
